At our January 12 regular meeting, Council approved the construction at Carey School of a new early education center providing preschool services for up to 75 students. The proposed center consists of a single-story building, approximately 5,895 square feet in size, along with a 100-square-foot trash enclosure. The development includes five classrooms, as well as ancillary and support spaces such as a multipurpose area, a reception area, an office, a teacher workroom, an outdoor play area, and a teaching garden.
Carey School, located on LaSalle Drive off of Alameda de las Pulgas and West 20th Avenue, provides education to students through 5th grade. While they currently provide preschool care at an offsite location, this new building will enable them ot more than double their preschool openings, with at least 10% offered with subsidies. The Carey School will continue to work with the neighborhood and the City to minimize traffic impact. This represents a large step in the City’s commitment to providing sufficient high-quality childcare for our residents.
