Small cell tower applications in San Mateo Park was the hot topic at January’s Community Coffee. Several neighbors joined me to protest the proposed small cell tower application by Crown Castle at 124 Warren Road. As noted, we passed a much stricter small cell ordinance late last year, but there are several applications that came in under the old ordinance. 124 Warren was one of them.
There was an appeal hearing of this application. The Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission, while frustrated by their limited review ability, ultimately denied the neighbors’ appeal. This was based on their belief that Crown Castle has fulfilled the application requirements as demonstrated by the City staff’s conditional approval of the application. Neighbors strongly objected, detailed why they believed the application was inadequately justified and not entitled to a variance, and offered other locations as better ways to fulfil the requirement to locate any towers at the “least intrusive site and location.”
I will continue to work with any D1 resident concerned about a small cell tower application near them. Visit https://cityofsanmateo.org/3865/Small-Cell-Infrastructure for the latest on Small Cell Towers.

Next month, I will be at 3 Bees Coffee, 224 3rd Avenue, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, 11am-12:30pm, to share coffee, treats and ideas with anyone who wants to stop by. Or reach out to come walking with me!
