What's Happening At City Council

ree

City Council is on a summer schedule in July and August, meeting only once each month, instead of twice.  Summer is the time our Public Works and Parks and Recreation teams are especially busy, paving roads, fixing infrastructure, pruning trees, cleaning out drains and many other maintenance tasks.  Hopefully, you have seen their crews out and about San Mateo.  They do a great job helping San Mateo look beautiful and get ready for our winter rains.

The major action at the July City Council meeting was to approve a $168,000 Emergency Rental Assistance Program to help neighbors who are having difficulty making rent because of job loss, family illness or other unexpected problems.  This pilot program will be run by San Mateo’s own Samaritan House.  Recipients must meet strict criteria and work with a counselor to set up financial or other plans to develop more financial stability.  We look forward to learning from this program as we go forward and becoming a stronger community because of it.
